PROGRAMME AIMS

This RQF Level 5 Professional Diploma in TESOL aspires to furnish teachers-educators with an extensive and sophisticated comprehension of innovative language teaching methodologies. Tailored for language instructors across diverse educational settings, the programme aims to:

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

  • All participants must undergo an online induction which is not assessed and aimed at acquiring e-learning skills for the use of the online learning portal and e-library. In addition, academic expectations, regulations, and the concept of independent learning are also covered.
  • There are 3 core and 1 Specialised module of 15 credits each.
  • To complete the programme and gain the Level 5 Professional Diploma in TESOL a learner must gain a total of 60 Credits.
  • Each module term will be delivered over a duration of 4 weeks where the cycle of delivery will follow a prescribed module planner for a full academic year.
  • Participants are required to complete their professional diploma between a minimum of 4 months to a maximum of 6 months from the time of enrolment as a participant.

Standard Delivery Mode

  • Mode A: Blended Learning mode – Each taught module will have a total of 8 hours face- to- face lectures and 18 hours of online tutoring and online interactions with the Module/Module Leader.
  • Mode B: Fully Online mode- Each taught module will have a total of 18 hours of online learning,tutorials, and interactions with a module leader.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Admission into the programme is contingent upon the submission of evidence indicating the candidate’s potential to meet the programme’s objectives and attain the necessary standards for qualification. Criteria used in considering admissions to the programme include candidate’s language proficiency, academic, professional, and working experiences.

Summary of Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements for this Professional Diploma in TESOL are:

  • Completion of a relevant certificate or diploma in a related field and recognised by London Examinations Board. These qualifications should be equivalent to one academic year with 120 credits at Level 4 study of any recognised university, or
  • Mature learners who do not meet the traditional entry requirements but have a minimum of 2 years of relevant English Language teaching experience and can demonstrate their readiness for the programme through an interview or portfolio may be admitted on to the programme, and
  • For applicants or non-native English speakers, a proof of English language proficiency is usually required. This can be demonstrated through standardized tests like IELTS or TOEFL with a minimumband score of 6.0 or equivalent to a CEFR B1 level.

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

The aim of the assessment strategy is to identify formal practices and procedures for assessing and appraising the performance of the Professional Diploma participants to enable judgements and decisions to be reached concerning:

  • The progression of participants through the programme.
  • How well the participants have met the programme learning outcomes through the combination of the individual module learning outcomes.
  • The provision of feedback information to participants concerning their performance and how they adhered to the generic assessment criteria and module-specific assessment criteria.
  • The granting of the Professional Diploma in TESOL.

To provide feedback to participants, a PASS or FAIL grading scale will be used for all assessed elements:

Assessment Criteria

Participants should have completed and successfully passed all four (4) modules with a total of sixty (60) Credits.

Grades, Graded Scale and Levels Classifications

The grading table/scale for these modules are as follows:

0 – 49FAIL

PASS: The candidate demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of TESOL principles and practices, effectively applies teaching methodologies and successfully completes all programme requirements, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for entry-level TESOL teaching positions.

FAIL: The candidate does not demonstrate a sufficient understanding of TESOL principles and practices, fails to apply teaching methodologies effectively, and further indicates insufficient performance or does not complete all final requirements satisfactorily. Students may be required to retake specific components of the entire programme depending on the severity of shortcomings or insufficiency.
