MBA Dissertation Module
This capstone module represents the culmination of your MBA studies, designed to demonstrate your scholarly maturity, intellectual independence, and professional competence. You will conceptualise, design, and execute an original empirical research project that addresses a significant and contemporary issue within business and management.
Programme Structure
The dissertation is a substantial piece of independent research, structured into six key chapters with a recommended total of 20,000 words (±10%).
Chapter 1: Introduction (approx. 2,000 words): Sets the scene by introducing the research background, problem statement, aims, objectives, and research questions.
Chapter 2: Literature Review (approx. 3,000-4,000 words): Provides a critical synthesis of existing theories and research, identifies gaps in the literature, and develops the conceptual or theoretical framework for your study.
Chapter 3: Research Methodology (approx. 4,000 words): Details and justifies your research philosophy, design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and the procedures for data analysis, while addressing ethical considerations.
Chapter 4: Findings and Results (approx. 5,000 words): Presents the data collected and the results of your analysis in a clear and objective manner, using text, tables, and figures.
Chapter 5: Discussions (approx. 4,000 words): Interprets your findings, discussing their implications and explaining how they relate to the literature reviewed in Chapter 2.
Chapter 6: Conclusions and Recommendations (approx. 2,000 words): Summarises the entire study, draws final conclusions, and provides actionable, strategically relevant recommendations for practice and future research.
Supporting Elements: The dissertation also includes preliminary pages (abstract, approval page, declaration, etc.) and a bibliography/reference list with a minimum of 50-70 credible sources, using APA (7th Edition) referencing style.
Entry Requirements
To be admitted to the MBA Dissertation module, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Qualification: Successful completion of the Level 11 Professional Diploma in Business Administration (PDBA) programme or an equivalent qualification.
- English Language Proficiency: Demonstrate a minimum English language proficiency of CEFR B2 or other equivalence accepted by Jesselton University College (JUC).
Assessment Structure
The dissertation is assessed based on a single submission, which accounts for 100% of the final mark. The assessment rubric focuses on the following key areas:

- Discussions: 10%
- Conclusions and Recommendations: 10%

Grading:
The module is graded on a percentage scale (0-100%), corresponding to a CGPA. A CGPA of below 3.0 is considered a FAIL. The Final award classification for the MBA is based on the overall CGPA:
- Distinction: 3.67 – 4.00
- Merit: 3.33 – 3.66
- Pass: 3.00 – 3.22
Duration:
The dissertation must be completed within a minimum period of 4 months and a maximum of 8 months from the start date.
Mode of Delivery:
The module is delivered through the Blended or Online study patterns. It involves approximately 750 notional hours of work, including independent study, research, and writing. Each student is supported by an approved supervisor through a minimum of scheduled online interactions.
